BSc. PhD

Dr Isabel Vazquez studied Chemistry at the University of Oviedo in Asturias (Spain), specialising in Chemical Engineering. In 1998 she became a member of the Environmental Technologies Research Group belonging to the Chemical Engineering Department in the University of Oviedo. Her two first years of research were focused on the feasibility study of a mesophilic and thermophilic anaerobic treatment of cattle manure in UASB reactors.

Dr Vazquez went on to study for a Doctorate Degree in the Area of Environmental Technologies of the University of Oviedo, in the Study and Modelling of the Biological Removal of Pollutants in Coke Wastewater which she concluded in 2005. This work was funded by EU to carry out the project “Advanced process control for biological water treatment plants in steel works”.

She has also worked within other environmental issues such as studies of the exploitation feasibility of the generated biogas in different sanitary landfills across Spain or decontamination of water supplies by means of adsorption using magnetic materials (University of Lancaster, England),

Dr Vazquez is currently a Research Associate in the School of Applied Sciences of the University of Glamorgan working for the Sustainable Environment Research Centre within the SUPERGEN project (UK-SHEC) in the overall design, building supervision, commissioning, experimental operation and results analysis of a pilot scale plant for the production of biohydrogen.
