WIRHEP – Wales & Ireland Rural Hydrogen Energy Project (EU Interreg III funded)
The Wales and Ireland Rural Hydrogen Energy Project (WIRHEP) will deliver a new and highly innovative cross-border project, with huge potential for rural diversification, by building on the established partnership between Antur Cwm Taf/Tywi and Waterford County Council.
The Welsh Assembly Government has supported the sustainable hydrogen energy project "Towards the Hydrogen Economy Project" at the University of Glamorgan. This flagship project for hydrogen energy in Wales has resulted in the development of the Hydrogen Farm concept which has been identified by the Carmarthenshire Hydrogen Energy Group, (CHEG), as an exceptional opportunity for rural Carmarthenshire with huge potential for cross-border development with Ireland. Hydrogen energy presents incredible opportunities for rural diversification, the concept of the Hydrogen Farm will be developed under WIRHEP. This potential is in its infancy in Wales and Ireland, yet both countries share similar characteristics in terms of their natural rural environments which make them ideally placed to take full advantage of this potential, especially by producing hydrogen from biomass. |
