The Sustainable Environment Research Centre currently comprises nearly 30 staff, Research Students, Research Assistants and Research Fellows and is one of the University of Glamorgan's (www.glam.ac.uk) most well established research groups. SERC is truly interdisciplinary: group members have expertise in biochemistry, chemistry, physics, mechanical and control engineering, renewable energies, chemical engineering, business and communicating science. Team members have experience in operating lab scale, pilot scale and full-scale biological process plants, and have participated in a number of large national and international collaborative projects, both Research Council and EU funded.
The Wastewater Treatment Research Unit focuses particularly on anaerobic digestion, including on-line monitoring and control. The Hydrogen Research Unit has since 1998 become recognised nationally and internationally for its work on hydrogen including dark fermentative hydrogen production. The Sustainable Environment Research Centre undertakes national and world-leading research into waste treatment and the sustainable production of energy from waste and grown biomass. To achieve this, considerable investment has been made into the facilities available to researchers and students. Over 100 papers have been published in refereed journals and the team holds a number of patents in the area of biological process monitoring.
Much of the work of SERC is in association with industry. If you think there is any way in which we could help you please get in touch - our contact details are on the 'Contact Us' link at the head of the page. |
